Dear Parents and Friends,
THE FRIENDS OF THE PERFORMING ARTS welcome you to the start of another exciting school year. FOPA believes the performing arts are a vital part of the high quality, well-rounded educational experience provided to our students at Dover-Sherborn High School. FOPA supports all of the performing arts programs at DSHS including the Concert and Jazz Bands, Vocal Ensemble, a Cappella, and the Drama and Musical productions. Involvement in the arts helps to develop cognitive abilities, creativity, confidence, discipline, community building and communication skills, all of which benefit our children throughout their lifetimes. FOPA relies on parents and community members for volunteer efforts as well as for direct financial contributions. We encourage and appreciate your support!
Plans are underway for many wonderful DSHS performing arts programs this year. The DSHS fall play, Rhinoceros, a brilliant and absurd comedy by Ionesco, will be performed in Mudge Auditorium October 28-30. The Jazz Brunch will take place on November 7 at the Sherborn Inn, with performances by the DSHS Jazz Band, A Cappella and Vocal Ensemble. The DSHS Holiday Concert will be performed on December 16 and the spring musical production will take place on March 17-19, to name just a few of the performing arts events planned for the upcoming school year.
The performing arts at D-S provide an outlet where students of any ability can find a place to become involved in the high school community. Whether your student has interests in singing, playing in a band, acting, or working behind the scenes with set building or costume design, the performing arts provide a welcoming opportunity for your child to participate, contribute, and feel supported. Each year nearly half of the student population is involved in the performing arts in some capacity. For many students, the performing arts are the highlight of their high school experience. Several will also continue their artistic pursuits in college, careers and their communities.
It takes a large financial commitment to make all of these programs happen at D-S. A primary source of funding is through our Annual Fundraising Drive. We encourage you to support FOPA with your contribution. Please go to the"Make a Donation" tab on this site. Thank you in advance for supporting our children in their performing arts endeavors!
Lastly, we invite you to become involved in FOPA. Our meetings are held once a month in the D-S High School library. We look forward to seeing you at our meetings and events throughout the year. If
you would like to contact us directly, please call Nancy Dougherty
at 508-785-2225 or email nnd58@verizon.net.
Thank you for your support!
